A young boy had promised to mow the lawn and pick up the yard. When he failed to do it according to his father's instructions, he knew it was but a matter of time until his father would approach him to ask about it. "Are you going to yell at me, Dad?" he gingerly asked. "Why, no," his father answered. "I had hoped that you would keep your word and do the work, but since you haven't done it as we discussed, I will forgive you." "Does that mean it's okay that I didn't do the lawn?" he asked, somewhat surprised. "No," his father replied. "I said I understand and I forgive you for this, but now, because I love you, we need to talk about the consequences of your behavior. You won't be watching television for the next week." -- Schmitz
