The young boy had gone miniature golfing with his father and other relatives and was the youngest individual playing. In addition, it was one of the first times he had ever done this. It was, therefore, no surprise to anyone that his score was the highest.
Following the game, he kept insisting to his father that he had actually come in first, not last. In time his insistence so affected his father the he unwisely capitulated and appeared to agree with the young boy. In that way, the young boy veiled himself from the truth.
Paul reminds us that any veiling of the Gospel is apt more to be found in self-deception rather than any cloudiness in the Gospel's bottom lines.
