"For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, encouraging, comforting, and urging you to live lives worthy of God...." In his book Screwtape Letters C. S. Lewis describes an imaginary correspondence between two devils, Screwtape, the senior devil, and Wormwood, his nephew, who is working on a man who recently became a Christian. Screwtape counsels Wormwood on how best to tempt this man and destroy his faith. He is told that an attack has the best chance of succeeding if he is discouraged and led to see all the negatives in the world.
