For years Dan and Jane had worried about their eldest son. Fifty-year-old Bill's drinking problem seemed incurable. He lived in that infamous "velvet fog" for nearly two decades. On six different occasions he had unsuccessfully completed alcohol detoxification and/on thirty-day treatment programs. Each time he returned to drinking within six months. The family nearly gave up hope. They were concluding "There is no peace, ... for the wicked" (v. 21).
