The year was 1815. Napoleon, who had been defeated, escaped imprisonment, and led
another army into Europe. If he could not be stopped, another long war would be ahead.
On the planes of Waterloo, in France, the forces met in a terrible battle. Finally, the battle
was over, and from the coast land of England the message of the results of the battle were
signaled by flag (wigwagged by semaphore), to London. The words "Wellington defeated
..." came through, then a fog settled in, and the message had to wait. Very quickly the
heartbreaking news spread through London. And fears that more lives would be lost
before there would be a victory. Then the fog lifted, and the signaling semaphore became
visible again. The complete message was, "Wellington defeated Napoleon!"
The message at the cross seemed to be, "Jesus defeated...." The complete message is: "Jesus defeated death!"
