Why is a prophet not...

Why is a prophet not honored in his or her own home town? Maybe it's because said prophet is known too well.
Randy was an all too typical youngster in junior high, taking part in his share of stealing apples and other such tomfoolery. During his senior high years he moved up to shoplifting, reckless driving, and experimentation with drugs and alcohol. Following high school graduation Randy moved away to attend college and rarely returned to his home town to visit family and friends.
Most of the townspeople who knew Randy as a child assumed that he went on in life as a social rebel. Little did they know that while he was in college Randy was greatly influenced by the campus pastor and became involved in the Lutheran Student Movement. By the time he graduated from college, Randy felt called to go into the ministry. When the seminary contacted his home congregation to ask for financial support for Randy, some of the congregation's members said they couldn't support him because he wasn't fit for the ministry. Randy was hurt, but not surprised when he was told that the congregation would not support him.
Paul must have run into that kind of resistance in spades.
