Whether it is an international event like the death of Princess Diana or a mere local event such as the death of a local teen or community leader, the news often follows the ritual of beginning with the reporter telling what is known at the time, following by an announcement by a spokesperson, and at the appropriate time, a few words from a family member. The family member's confirmation of what we have been hearing adds authority to the message. We know it must be true.
