When Tim Lefens, an artist whose paintings had been shown in several New York galleries, learned that he was losing his sight, he began to search out others with artistic interests who were also handicapped. Beginning with students at Matheny School and Hospital in Peapack, New Jersey, he taught students with developmental disorders, such as cerebral palsy, how to paint. In one case, he taught them to paint with the canvas on the floor, using their wheelchairs as big pencils to create their artwork.
