When the people heard Peter...

When the people heard Peter inform them that they had been responsible for Jesus'
crucifixion, they wanted to know what they must do. The apostle wasted no time insisting
that they do things many churches never mention -- "Repent, and be baptized every one
of you in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven; and you will receive
the gift of the Holy Spirit." In some churches you never hear about repentance; they're
also reluctant to get folks wet in baptism.
I recently studied with a couple in their eighties who had regularly attended a church for years. They'd heard little about repentance, and the husband had never been baptized -- ever. After reading Acts 2, he wanted to comply with the New Testament. His wife began to question whether she had ever really repented. Both fully complied as did the people on the day of Pentecost. They are now one very happy, dedicated couple and are eager to know how to please the Lord.
