When people are in deep grief, as was Mary in the garden on Easter morning, it is not unusual not to see clearly. The other senses as well can be affected in a similar way. Most pastors have seen how people in the disorientation of grief fail, for a moment, to recognize life-long friends at the funeral or memorial service.
