When the Nazis were defeated in Europe, Hitler took his own life. A tragic and evil era had come to an end. The Nazi leaders who survived the war knew that the Allied victory would not only mean the end of their leadership and power but also the end of their own lives, unless they could get far away quickly enough. So many Nazi leaders, close collaborators with Hitler, fled Europe.
