When John G. Paton, the first missionary to the cannibals of the South Pacific Islands,
was working on translating the Holy Bible into their native language, he could find no
word for "faith." One day an exhausted runner, in utter exhaustion, flopped down on his
bamboo couch and spoke a word Paton had never heard before. He jumped to his feet,
and asked the tired runner to repeat the word which he did, meaning he could cast his
weary body on the couch and be supported.
Paton responded: "That's what faith is, it means you can cast your self upon Jesus Christ
