A wedding was the occasion...

A wedding was the occasion for the extended family to be together. Aunts, uncles, and cousins from several states convened for the first time in almost a decade. Following the wedding service, a family portrait was taken among the many other photographs. The photographer commented that she had never seen such a large family.
The grandparents sat on chairs in the middle, looking a bit frail but certainly happy on this joyous occasion. Standing on both sides were their children along with spouses, and kneeling in front of them were twenty or so grandchildren, some with spouses. The youngest in the picture were a couple of great-grandchildren ranging in age from infant to toddlers.
All the people posing for this picture came into being as a result of two people who fell in love and were married over sixty years ago. The grandparents must have sensed both pride and joy in the midst of so many people who shared the same heritage. They might not have ever dreamed of being part of such a large family, but by God's grace they were at the very center of it.
Abraham and Sarah were an elderly couple who had no children or grandchildren. God promised Abraham that one day, "You shall be the ancestor of a multitude of nations." Abraham being a person of strong faith believed in God's promise.
