We live in a gourmet culture, seen on television by the sight of all sorts of delectable foods; at every corner stand either a restaurant or a fast food shop. Our only fears are cholesterol and consequent heart attack. Our only protest is about putting on weight.
In the early church, food was regarded as a religious discipline. The old taboos of the Hebrew faith still held -- the camel, the rock rabbit, the pig, and any kind of blood.
