We are admonished by Christ...

We are admonished by Christ not to judge people, yet that we may discern between good and evil by the fruit one bears. And in the Scripture of 1 John, we are told that our love for God and man is reflected not by "word or speech," but "in deed and truth." In this context, we witness to our faith not by what we claim to be, but by what we really are.
Albert Schweitzer, the great theologian, physician, musician, writer, animal rightist, missionary, and humanitarian was often criticized for his theological views and for his unyielding belief in a reverence for all life, but his actions spoke very eloquently and persuasively for his deep faith. He spent the major part of his life serving the needs of Africans at his hospital in Lambarene, and his every word and deed seemed consistent with his beliefs. Schweitzer has justifiably been called by many as one of the greatest Christians of all time. But it is important to remember that this is not a distinction he gave to himself, nor was it earned by what he preached or wrote. Rather, it has come about because of what he did.
