Water. We need a sufficient amount of it. On May 31, 1889, there occurred what has come to be known as the Johnston (Pa.) flood, where more than 2,000 drowned. It was actually caused by failure to maintain a dam above Johnstown. Similarly, some of our floods surely are caused because we have put houses and streets so that water can not soak in as it once did.
Have you been to the Grand Canyon? You are told that the Grand Canyon was formed by the Colorado River. When you look down, you will see the Colorado River. Have you ever thought of what happens to the river after it leaves that area. At one time it emptied into the ocean. Now you will see that it does not reach the sea. There is at least one tall bridge which now spans sand instead of the Colorado River. What happened? The Colorado River gets diverted here and there until it is all gone.
Have you reached some point in your life when you felt that you have been diverted this way and that, by family, by pressures, by the church until you feel you are empty? There is good news. The Today's English Version has it, "Come, whoever is thirsty; accept the water of life as a gift, whoever wants it Revelation 22:17."
