Wagner's opera, Parsifal, features the ancient legend of the Quest for the Holy Grail. Popular feeling often is that Galahad is the hero of the story, but to the accompaniment of solemn music it is really Parsifal who achieved the Grail. The two players are contrasted in that Galahad wins with ease while Parsifal does so with great difficulty. Galahad was good from birth and with calm and confidence he goes on his quest as on a sunny journey. But Parsifal is one of us who must fight our human conflicts while bystanders wonder whether or not he will prevail.
