As a very young man I can remember an extremely vivid display of the aurora borealis, or northern lights, which filled the evening sky with brilliant waves of red and green colors. Relatives and neighbors watched the lights in open-mouthed wonder; some of them in great fear, believing the lights to be an end-of-the-world harbinger while others simply stood in awe of the breathtaking display. One neighbor, however, offered this comment and question: "It's as if God Almighty is baptizing the world with fire. But I wonder if we are worth it!" -- Byrd
