Unable to take his Spanish royalties out of the country, the English writer, Somerset Maugham, decided to use the money to pay for a luxury holiday in Spain. He chose one of the best hotels and dined extravagantly every night. After a time he felt confident he must surely have spent most of the accumulated sum, so he informed the manager he would be checking out. When he asked for his bill, the manager, who knew of Maugham's fame and reputation, smiled broadly and replied, "You have brought much good publicity to us. Therefore, there is no bill."
