Two young children had experienced unspeakable abuse at the hands of alcoholic parents -- beatings, cigarette burns, and who knew what else. They were taken from their parents by the authorities and placed in foster care in a loving home. The children, ages three and two, always seemed afraid and would not respond to the affection offered by the foster parents. The foster parents developed a deep love for these two children who had received no love, and decided to adopt them.
