The two pastors from Tanzania...
Illustration
The two pastors from Tanzania had been in the United States for two months. The time of their stay was almost over and it was time to head back to Africa. Likewise, two American pastors would be saying good-bye in Tanzania and returning to the States. The time of pastoral exchange was nearly over. On that final Sunday, Pastor Jim felt tears in his eyes. It had only been two months but he had grown close to these people. Their simple life marred by poverty seemed unable to stop the joy which their faith held. You could see it in their faces and hear it in their songs as they praised God. There was much that American Christians could learn from these sisters and brothers across the sea. One woman named Mercy had been especially helpful. She had a sense of God around her all the time, it seemed. Her words that last Sunday would stick in his mind for a long time: "You have many ideas about God," she said. "But don't forget that most of all, God is powerful. I will pray for you." Pastor Jim nodded, "And I will pray for you."
