Two men were walking along a crowded sidewalk in a busy downtown area. Suddenly, one of them remarked, "Listen to the lovely sound of that cricket." But his companion could not hear the sound. "How can you hear the sound of a cricket in the midst of all these traffic noises?" The first man, who was a zoologist, had trained himself to listen to the voices of creatures. However, he didn't bother explaining that to his companion. Instead, he took a quarter out of his pocket and dropped it on the sidewalk. When the coin struck the sidewalk, a dozen people started to look around them.
