Toward the end of Stephen Sondheim's and James Lapine's musical Into the Woods, one of the main characters, The Baker, is left to raise his son without a mother because she has been killed by a giant. Leading into the finale of "Children Will Listen," The Baker's Wife comes to The Baker in a vision as he wonders aloud if he was meant to have children. "Don't say that," says The Baker's Wife. "Of course you were meant to have children."
"But how will I go about being a father with no one to mother my child?"
"Just calm the child."
