On a tour of Israel...

On a tour of Israel with a group of 30 others were a Jewish layman and a Protestant minister. It was the first trip to the Holy Land for each of them. Beside the road from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem they saw the burned out tanks and personnel carriers left as memorials to the Jews who fought and died there in one of Israel's wars. The tour bus pulled off the highway at a point from which the traveler could first see Jerusalem. The minister was asked to pray. With the vivid memorials to war in mind, he quoted Psalm 122:6-9, "Pray for the peace of Jerusalem ..." He prayed for Jews, Christians, Muslims. That evening, Christian and Jew stood side by side at the Western Wall, an awesome moment for the one whose prayer had, for years, been "Next year, Jerusalem!"
Now he too prayed for the peace of Jerusalem. They each knew if the prayer is to be answered another must join them. Since that time they have dedicated themselves to finding a Muslim to join in the prayer with the knowledge that wolf and lamb, lion and ox will be at peace only when the desire for peace is greater than the desire to dominate the others.
