In Toronto, Cass Loma is a monument to greed and dissipation. It vividly illustrates the vanity of selfish extravagance and flamboyance. Sir Henry Mill Pellatt, prominent Canadian financier, industrialist and military officer of the early 20th century, built a 98-room castle on a hill overlooking the city. From 1911-14, 300 men constructed the castle at a cost of $3.5 million. The imposing structure is 300 feet high, with secret passageways and an 800-foot tunnel.
