At this time of year, many gardening enthusiasts anticipate the arrival of a new year's supply of seed and gardening catalogs. It is both a delight and a challenge to plan and dream about what next year's garden will be like.

Many images of gardens come to mind -- gardens visited while travelling, gardens of friends and neighbors, gardens left behind -- not to mention the picture perfect gardens in home magazines. The gardener must consider what will be planted in the garden, how it should be landscaped, and what must be done to provide adequate water and other care.
