At the time of the transfiguration, Jesus must have known something was about to happen. He took his closest disciples with him up the mountain. The transfiguration was external. The disciples saw it. The transfiguration hinted at the total change at Easter. Though Jesus may not have known what the change would be, he perhaps trusted that it would happen.
Change that affects us through and through does not happen until we have prepared and are ready for it. A veil of mystery and uncertainty clouds our perceptions. However, when we are ready, the veil lifts. We see the truth.
