Though badly hurt at times, we are not destroyed. The cross demonstrates for all, the best can emerge from the worst. Out of the death and destructiveness of the cross, because of Jesus, we see it as the sign of hope. In the forest nothing is lost forever. Plant life withers and drops to the forest floor; animals die. Transformed into humus they are the building blocks for future generations. Remember the pearl is transformed from an irritant into something very beautiful. During WWII, 95 types of flowers and shrubs unknown for decades were found in London, growing in holes where nitrates from bursting and burning bombs had enriched the soil. Seeds had been preserved for future generations. Anyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved.
Because of the cross, we have the assurance as given in 2 Corinthians 4:8-9, "We are often troubled, but not crushed; sometimes in doubt, but never in despair; there are many enemies but we are never without a friend!"
