Think of the numerous meetings which have occurred around a table. Remember the romantic stories of King Arthur and his knights of the Round Table. Wars have been planned and peace terms negotiated at tables. Tables with food and drink, regardless of how simple or expensive, have long brought together those with needs not only to eat but to talk, cry, seek counsel, or propose marriage.
