These words were written in response to party strife and division in the church at Corinth. That divisiveness is still with us. The church, in its local expressions, seems to represent one camp or the other along class, ethnic, and racial lines. The Boston Celtics look more like the community envisioned by Paul. But the words are here haunting us, prodding us. Within the tension between the vision and visible, the Spirit still works, for God perceives the end of his work. We need such a vision in this decade of the eighties.
