These days, politicians and other public servants have nowhere to hide. When they run for office or are nominated for an appointed position, people throughout the land begin sorting through their lives with fine tooth combs. Their opponents are looking for anything that might make them look bad in the eyes of the public. Their allies are searching the record for anything that would hinder their credibility, to be prepared with an adequate defense should anything suspect be uncovered.
