There's a fine line between building up or supporting a person and tearing apart or destroying a person. Sometimes it isn't easy to tell which is which. John's a perfect example. Ever since he'd been a boy, John had been overweight. He'd been teased by family and friends alike, tormented by his own appearance in his teenage years, and now, even at the age of 55, he couldn't bear to hear comments about his weight. Those who were closest to him had learned how to ignore his weight. No one wanted to hurt John, including his best friend, Mike, who also happened to be the town doctor. Then, during a routine physical, Dr. Mike discovered that John had a number of problems -- all controllable by diet and weight loss. His problem was this: Should he risk hurting John by telling him that his obesity would lead to severe illness and possible death, or should he ignore the problem? Do you ever have to tear down in order to build up? -- Conroy
