There were about 100 guests -- family and friends of the physician who was retiring after 50 years of practicing medicine in the blue-collar neighborhood where he had been born and raised. His offices were located in the front rooms on the first floor of the home where he and his wife raised their seven children. His relatives and colleagues spoke highly of him as they presented him with various plaques and mementoes of appreciation. Finally it was his turn to speak. He stood and addressed all present with these words: "This is really a double celebration of retirement.
