There was a man who lived out in the countryside. And every year the road in front of his house kept getting worse and worse, with more potholes all the time. The fellow kept calling the highway department to complain. But nothing ever seemed to happen. Finally, after the man had called for months on end, the highway department agreed to do something about his problem.

But what they did was not what the man had expected. Instead of repairing his stretch of road, the highway department erected a sign that said: "Caution -- Rough Road Ahead."
