There are many navigation dams on the Mississippi which the Army Corps of Engineers has built in an attempt to control the mighty river. On the east side of such structures, the water is extremely turbulent, boiling and churning with unbelievable force. Some of the best fishing is to be found along the slippery rocks which line the banks. Although a danger exists, a fisherman is relatively safe when one is able to secure a solid place to stand. The solid ground offers a safe footing from the vortex of water that would quickly carry one into the dark abyss of a watery grave.
