There are colonies for lepers throughout the world, especially in Africa. One such colony is located near the city of Kinshasa in Zaire. Lepers leave their families and come here to spend their last days in this small commune.

The public is invited to come to an "open house" at this leper colony once a year. Visitors can wander through the medical buildi ngs and rehabilitation centers. As they do so, they soon find themselves in the midst of disfigured persons, some without toes, or without hands, or with badly swollen joints.
