The story of Abraham bargaining...
The story of Abraham bargaining with the Lord over the fate of Sodom, exploring God's mercy, is not unique to our tradition. In the Qur'an God commands the prophet Muhammed to have humankind to pray 50 times each day. The prophet, on his return to earth, stops to talk to Moses about this. Moses, knowing the people, is skeptical of humankind's ability to honor this command from God. And so Moses sends Muhammed back to God to bargain, gradually reducing the number to five times each day and establishing the Islamic tradition of intentional prayer throughout the day.
