Stories of remarkable rescues are somewhat common. We learn, for instance, of Brandon Abston, of Lawton, Oklahoma, who rescued four children -- a boy about five, two toddler girls, and a baby -- caught in a bedroom of his apartment building when a fire broke out. He rushed into the smoke-filled room and snatched the baby. He plunged back in and scooped up the smaller girl, made it outside, and ran back in, grabbed the other girl, and hauled her out.
