Every year or so, someone thinks that he or she has figured out when the world will come to an end. The date is set. The followers of the leader sell their property. The date comes, and many are disappointed.
A true prophet is one who is chosen by God, not self-appointed. One of the signs of a true prophet is the feeling of inadequacy and a reluctance to do what God calls him to do, which is matched by an eagerness to do it because it is Yahweh who is calling.
