Stevens Danish, chairman of the psychology department at Virginia Commonwealth University says, "By breaking a goal into achievable parts you enhance your immediate benefits in terms of short-term gains, and you reduce the price you pay in effort." He adds further that everyone cannot have everything all at once. We must learn to live with "trade-offs." We will have to learn how to make sacrifices. Another psychologist, Alan Marlatt, suggests writing down short and long-term "consequences of any second chance you contemplate."
