In Stephen King's television mini-series, The Storm of the Century, the villain is a man named Ligone (which Constable Andersen discovers is a scrambling of the name "Legion"). Set on the Maine coast island of Little Tall during the winter of 1989, the people in the story are a closely-knit, caring community of a couple hundred. But Ligone, who is a personification of the devil, exposes their sins and shortcomings.
He charges one with being an adulterer, three others as assailants, one for abandoning his dying mother, another for storing marijuana in his warehouse, and another for being a pedophile. As these sins become common knowledge, the bond between the people disintegrates. Their guilt destroys the community.
Jesus' sacrifice on the cross removed our sin and guilt which estranges us. As we are reconciled to God, the bond of love between Christians is established. Jesus, in this his High Priestly Prayer, prays that by the power of the Holy Spirit sent from the Father all believers might live in love, united with one another.
