Since the state of Israel has had control of the Negev, a miracle has occurred. The Negev is the southernmost portion of Israel. It is an arid land that runs from south of Jerusalem all the way to the Gulf of Aqaba on the Red Sea, near the Sinai Peninsula. Israel developed the National Water Carrier Project, which accesses water from the Sea of Galilee way in the north to irrigate the desert in the south. This irrigation system is the equivalent to "rivers in the desert," providing much-needed water for agricultural development of the land.
