Sometimes the most impressive temple...
Sometimes the most impressive temple is the one not built. Consider the monumental,
unfinished, Sacred Family Cathedral in Barcelona. The Catalan architect, Antoni Gaudi,
poured more than a third of a century into this unusual, striking Gothic/Art Nouveau
creation. When he died in 1926, the cathedral was less than half complete. Work
continues very slowly on the eight 330-foot spires that surround the 525-foot super-spire,
because funding comes only through private donations. Part of the wonder of Sacred
Family is wondering if, when, and how, it might be completed.
