Someone said, Life is what...

Someone said, "Life is what happens when you've planned something else." Wisdom can be what happens when all you wanted was learning.
Learning can be an empty accumulation of facts. Sometimes even Vacation Bible School can seem empty. Is it just summer babysitting for some folks?
Church too, can sometimes feel empty. The liturgy, the repetition, the same voice of the preacher and liturgist. Yet it is God's Word and the preaching thereof that gives us faith. The wonderful mystery of God is glimpsed throughout the ancient liturgy. We cannot leave his presence without being changed. Upon wise reflection, we understand well the proverb, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge of the Lord is understanding." He has come to us through his word, which never returns empty. When we hear his Word, we are in the presence of the mysterium tremendum and are filled with fearful joy. Our participation in the learning of the liturgy prepares us for wisdom.
