Some would refer to them as a heavenly sound on earth. To listen to the Boys Choir of Harlem is to get a sense of "the voices of many angels surrounding the throne." Not numbering thousands of thousands, but growing from a scant beginning of twenty in 1968 to 250 today, the Boys Choir of Harlem is like a vocal icon of heavenly sounds. The boys have sung praises to God with spirituals, as well as classic Christian music like the Messiah, not just in the states, but also around the world. If eavesdropping on a session, one can hear Professor Walter Turnbull, the director, shout to the boys, "Bravo. That's it. That's good!" It's like the four living creatures acclamation of "Amen" after the angels and "every creature in heaven and on earth" sing. We don't hear the heavenly voices of angels yet; but, if we listen carefully to the sounds around us, we will catch a glimpse of the warm-ups for the heavenly chorus begun on earth.
