Some time ago, a twenty-four-year-old student, Vido Mati of Barcelona, Spain, was writing his thesis for his Doctor of Philosophy degree. In reading some books in the library he found one by a certain philosopher. The aged philosopher had left his will in the book, and the will bequeathed his property to the first man who would read the book. Vido Mati took the will to the courts, was ruled the legal heir, and received an estate of $250,000.
We say, "How remarkable!" But if we earnestly read and believe the Bible, with its salvation message, we will find something infinitely more valuable.
Is it possible to place a value on forgiveness of sins, deliverance from judgment, eternal life, peace with God, and the hope of heaven? These treasures we find in Christ to whom the Scriptures point. As 2 Timothy 3:15 states, "And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus."
Faithful and diligent reading of the divine Word, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, imparts a treasure more lasting and abiding than any earthly sweepstakes or inheritance.
