In the small town where I grew up, the B & O Railroad was extremely important. More than a score of trains passed through every 24 hours. Down by the tracks was the depot. We all knew Mr. Finley, the station agent. He sat there behind the bay window clicking out messages on the telegraph.
Every so often Mr. Finley would go out with his eraser and chalk to make a change on the schedule posted on the side of the building. We would learn that No. 33 going west would not be arriving at 12:43 but would be at 12:55 instead. We kept a close watch on that schedule board.
