In a small town, a trip to the post office is an opportunity to visit with neighbors and catch up on the latest gossip. Each conversation begins with the prerequisite question: "Did you get much mail?"
More often than not, a grumbling reply informs the questioner that the mail consisted largely of junk mail and bills. But every once in awhile, especially at this time of the year, the question is answered with a quick smile and a cheerful voice, as someone replies, "I've got a letter from my family."
