The small group had just completed a spiritual gift inventory and was sharing the results
with each other. Several people were surprised at what the inventory revealed as their
spiritual gift. Others affirmed the person saying that they recognized that particular gift in
the other person.
Holly said that she always felt uncomfortable visiting people. She never knew what to say. The inventory revealed that one of her gifts was administration. Denny affirmed her, telling her what an asset she was to the church by serving on several committees.
Meanwhile, Kerry's gift was compassion. She shared that she found committee meetings frustrating. "It seems like we never accomplish anything," she said. Identifying her spiritual gift as compassion made sense, since she enjoyed visiting with the older members of the church. She would take people to doctor's appointments and run errands for them. She enjoyed being with people.
Fred shared that his gift was teaching, which again made sense, because his Sunday school lessons were always interesting. He, too, was affirmed.
The group talked about how each person has a different gift but when everyone uses their spiritual gift in conjunction with others in the church the church is at its strongest. Each person was affirmed for the gift they possessed and was encouraged to use their gift in the church.
