Slate: a fine-grained sedimentary rock composed of clay or volcanic ash. It is easy to split
into thin sheets of stone. It is used for roofing shingles, whetstones, pool table tops, and
blackboards. But who thought slate could be used for art?
Elaine Sell Prefontaine of British Columbia did. She takes pieces of slate and engraves pictures of bison, cougars, fish, eagles, and a prehistoric North American native god named Kokopelli. The work is beautiful and makes one take a more appreciative look at stones. (Elaine's work can be seen at www.slatestoneart.ca.)
If Elaine can take slate and make it into a work of art, can anyone doubt that God could take a rock and turn it into a descendent of Abraham?
